Sell Your Way to the USA 2024: A Week in Washington, DC for Agents

12 December 2024: Three lucky agents from the ‘Sell Your Way to the USA’ 2024 incentive program embarked on an unforgettable seven-day journey to Washington, DC, flying with air partner American Airlines.




Jamie Campbell from House of Travel Christchurch, Catherine Johnson from Kay Haines House of Travel Ashburton, and Michael Graham from Fuzion Travel (World Travellers), immersed themselves in the rich culture, history, and festive spirit of the nation’s capital.




Their trip to the Capital kicked off with a private city tour led by See DC Today, offering an intimate introduction to Washington, DC's iconic landmarks. They had a lunch stop at the legendary Ben’s Chili Bowl on U Street—a DC institution where they also got to meet the co-founder, Virginia Ali (as pictured below). The evening wrapped up with a stroll through the festive DowntownDC Holiday Market, followed by dinner at Carmine’s, a family-style Italian restaurant renowned for its generous portions and warm hospitality.



The next day featured free time to explore the Smithsonian Museums on the National Mall and an opportunity to ice skate at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden Ice Rink, a perfect way to embrace the winter season. The evening was marked by a lively dinner at Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar, serving up vibrant Latin flavours, before heading on a dazzling DC Holiday Lights Tour with USA Guided Tours, showcasing the city’s holiday charm.




Their next day of adventures began with a visit to the U.S. Capitol, where the group experienced the historic seat of American democracy up close. The afternoon included a journey through space and aviation history at the National Air and Space Museum, followed by an immersive evening at ARTECHOUSEwith its holiday exhibit, Tingle Bells. Dinner at ilili, a Mediterranean gem at The Wharf, capped off a perfect day.





Continuing their trip, the group ventured on a guided walking tour of Historic Georgetown which offered boutique charm and cobblestone streets, followed by lunch at the historic Martin’s Tavern, famous for its rich history. The evening brought high-energy excitement at the Washington Wizards vs. Dallas Mavericks NBA game at Capital One Arena, a standout highlight for any sports fan.


The final full day included a visit to the poignant National Museum of African American History and Culture, where the group also enjoyed lunch at the award-winning Sweet Home Café. They later explored the seasonal Seasons Greenings Holiday Exhibit at the United States Botanic Garden. The evening concluded with a lively dinner and mini-golf at Swingers, providing a fun and festive send-off.




Before heading home, the group made one final stop at the International Spy Museum, where they explored the world of espionage and uncovered thrilling interactive exhibits.



Reflecting on the week, Michael Graham shared “DC has something for everyone—food, culture, sports—and has a diverse history unlike anywhere else in the world. The museums are next level—you will not be disappointed.” Jamie Campbell simply added “DC Overlook it, and you’ll miss out.” Catherine Johnson noted “DC is such an easy sell—it’s such a great city. Wow, the monuments and exploring the National Mall were a highlight. I’ll definitely be recommending this to my clients travelling to the East Coast.”


Overall, the group’s adventure showcased Washington, DC as a destination full of discovery, culture, and connection—an unforgettable experience.
