For accessible travel:

After Oregon earned the landmark designation as the first U.S. state to become “Accessibility Verified” by Wheel the World this past Fall, Travel Oregon has now been recognized by the Travel + Leisure Global Vision Awards, one of the travel industry’s most prestigious honours recognising people and organisations dedicated to the future of sustainable and inclusive travel. Selected as one of 24 winners globally, Travel Oregon was recognized for its statewide leadership in rethinking how destinations serve a broader range of travellers, setting a model for how tourism can evolve to be more inclusive while supporting the long-term success of local communities.

For leisure & business travellers:

Portland International Airport (PDX) is nearing the completion of its new terminal scheduled for June 2026. Acclaimed for its award-winning, 36,422 sq metre mass-timber roof which was built with wood sourced from nearby forests and via tribal partnerships, the terminal offers a woodland feel with its wavy ceiling and some 5,000+ plants. The project has been a major highlight for the Portland area, creating a unique airport experience that feels like an authentic extension of the city with local restaurants and shops showcased, including Powell's Books, Columbia Sportswear, Portland Coffee Roasters and many more. The $2.2 billion USD ($3.16 billion AUD) project has doubled the terminal capacity to handle 35 million passengers per year by 2045.

For consideration in travel trend round-ups:

Sport tourism continues to drive traveller’s holiday interests to worldwide destinations and women’s sports are having a well-deserved moment. From the achievements of athletes at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic & Paralympic Games to the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) to the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) in North America. The City of Portland has a new WNBA team, the Portland Fire, with the league’s season beginning May 8, 2026. In fact, Portland is becoming a mecca for women's sports with the building of a first-of-its-kind women’s sports performance centre, an internationally recognised roller derby league and, of course, the popular Sports Bra – the first sports bar in the U.S. dedicated to women's sports
