4 June 2026 – Washington, DC is gearing up for a landmark summer, with major new attractions, headline cultural openings and a citywide calendar of free festivals and experiences ahead of America’s 250th anniversary.
New highlights include the opening of the National Geographic Museum of Exploration, a major expansion of the National Air and Space Museum, and a new immersive museum experience beneath the Lincoln Memorial. Across the city, hotels, restaurants and cultural institutions are also unveiling special programming, experiences and packages tied to the milestone year.

Key summer openings include:
National Geographic Museum of Exploration (26 June) – A USD$300 million redevelopment featuring immersive exhibitions, projection-based experiences, a wildlife viewing dome and an international food hall.
National Air and Space Museum Expansion (1 July) – Five new galleries debut for the museum’s 50th anniversary, including WWII aircraft and space technology exhibits.
Undercroft Museum – Lincoln Memorial (by July) – New interpretive exhibits and immersive media exploring the memorial’s construction and civil rights legacy
Jefferson Memorial Exhibit Upgrade (Early summer) – An enhanced visitor experience with expanded interpretation of Thomas Jefferson’s legacy.
Tempo by Hilton Washington, DC Downtown (May) – A 278-key hotel conversion at 1776 K Street NW.
CitizenM Georgetown (June) – A new 230-room hotel preserving the façade of a historic Georgetown waterfront building.
