Choose Chicago Direct Flight Launch

BRIEF

Choose Chicago appointed Canuckiwi on a project basis to deliver a series of trade launch events across Australia and New Zealand. The objective was to build awareness and excitement in-market ahead of Air New Zealand’s new direct Auckland–Chicago service, launching in late November 2018, and to ensure agents were well informed and motivated to sell Chicago.

IDEA

Canuckiwi designed and delivered a multi-city event program timed to support the upcoming air service launch. Events were held in Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington, creating strong national coverage across both Australia and New Zealand./


The events were delivered in partnership with Air New Zealand and United Airlines, ensuring alignment between destination, airline, and trade messaging. Each event focused on educating agents about Chicago’s key selling points, neighbourhoods, experiences, and ease of access via the new direct flight.


To drive engagement and reinforce learning, agents were required to complete the Chicago Badge on the Brand USA Discovery Program to qualify for entry into a Chicago prize package. This approach ensured education sat at the heart of the activation while incentivising participation.


Trade media were invited to attend and cover the events, further amplifying awareness of Chicago and the new direct air service through industry channels.

RESULTS

  • Five trade events delivered across Australia and New Zealand

  • 350+ travel agents attended across the event series

  • Strong engagement with the Brand USA Discovery Program via Chicago Badge completion

  • Trade media coverage generated additional awareness for Chicago and the new direct Auckland–Chicago flight

  • Strengthened airline and destination partnerships ahead of route launch
